“Keynesian” Shipping Containers?

Abstract: Containers are the material representations of the rhizomatic movement of global capital that characterizes the post-West. They are a concrete symbol of the transnational imaginary they embody. 1At present [1992] we are living through a curious combination of the technology of the late twentieth century, the free trade of the nineteenth, and the rebirth of the sort of interstitial centres characteristic of world trade in the Middle Ages. 2
