Kinetic and thermodynamic adsorption studies of congo red on bentonite

Abstract: Abstract. Adsorption of congo red on bentonite was studied kinetics and thermodynamically. Bentonite was physically activated at various temperatures and characterized using X-ray, and infrared. By increasing thermal temperature activation up to 500 o C can decrease the montmorillonite fraction with decreasing the peak was observed. The kinetic of adsorption suggests that the interaction of congo red-bentonite could be best represented by the first-order kinetics of Langmuir-Hinshelwood model. The adsorption p… Show more

“…Compared with RB, CAB showed better adsorption capacity for CR i.e., CR removal efficiency by CAB in first 5 min was 45%, which was enhanced to 87% after 120 min. By comparing the CR removal efficiency (87%) by CAB with some literature reports, one can conclude that the newly designed CAB had faster reaction kinetics and hence can be deemed greatly cost effective on industrial level applications (Toor et al, 2015;Tarmizi et al, 2017).…”

“…Indonesia as one of the mineral-rich country has many natural bentonites deposit almost in every province [3]. Each bentonite deposit has their particular content composition that differs from the other deposit.…”

“…Its color will impart an aesthetic appearance in the water body, and moreover, it has high organic content which is not quickly degraded in the natural condition, high toxicity, mutagenicity, and carcinogenicity even in the low concentration state [3]. The contamination of dye in the wastewater hinders the passage of the light penetration into the water body, and the photosynthesis process will be disturbed [4].…”

“…One of the most interesting material is layered materials (Mishra et al, 2018). Based on its existence, nature layered materials such as kaolinite and bentonite (Taher et al, 2018(Taher et al, , 2017 then synthesized layered material such as layered double hydroxides or hydrotalcite (Jadhav et al, 2007;Lesbani et al, 2018;Palapa et al, 2018b). Nowadays, researchers had been interesting to layered materials especially layered double hydroxides.…”
