There have been disruptions in local and global food supply chains around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has led to rethink various aspects and to consider various trends in the food sector, encourage a more rapid transition and evolution to the Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM), to counteract current problems and to help towards a more sustainable and competitive vision. However, there is a strategic disconnection in SSCM between sustainability and strategies related to competitive advantage. Therefore, the objective of this research is to propose a decision-making model to assess the sustainability and competitiveness strategically of a Mexican agri-food focal SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprise) that leads its supply chain. It is validated with comparative analysis in the productive taro activity through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) that contributes to prevent or to face problems such as the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. This research is based on a case study methodology divided into four stages. Three presented alternatives are assessed and compared by thirty-five criteria: a) A current situation without sustainability, b) Cost leadership strategy considering sustainability, and c) Differentiation strategy considering sustainability. The conclusions indicate more feasibility and compatibility to achieve sustainability with a differentiation strategy than with a cost leadership strategy. The current crisis should lead us to think beyond COVID-19, as we have more challenges ahead, such as climate change, environmental impacts, poverty, among other aspects that could cause instability around the world. Therefore, the current situation should be an impetus to further progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, in this case, through the theory of SSCM. That is why this model contributes strategically to the SSCM, to develop greater long-term resilience in the Mexican agri-food focal SMEs and their supply chains.

The objective of this paper is to present the design of the sustainable supply chain based on the green supply chain framework of Ghobakhlo et al. (2013) and its management in the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) based on the SDG Compass of Global Reporting Initiative et al. (2016) in a Citrus Business Company. This research consists of a deductive method and action research. The sustainable practices identified sustainable supply chain are: solid waste reduction, purchase of non-polluting materials, providers with environmental certifications, recycling, reuse, and remanufacturing of materials, client cooperation for the formulation of environmental goals and programs to be implemented. The SDG identified are: 2 Zero Hunger, 4 Quality Education, 5 Gender Equality, 12 Responsible Consumption and Production, 13 Climate Action in Green Product Design, 3 Good Health and Well-Being in Green Material Management and Green Manufacturing Process, 6 Clean Water and Sanitation, 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, and 9 Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure in Green Marketing, Green Distribution, and Reverse Logistics, and 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth. In conclusion, this study can be useful for those companies interested in designing their sustainable supply chain and its contribution to the SDG of the 2030 Agenda.

En este artículo de revisión, se examina la digitalización de la cadena de suministro en Ecuador, destacando tendencias, desafíos y oportunidades derivadas de la adopción de tecnologías emergentes. En la introducción, se contextualiza la importancia de la digitalización en el ámbito empresarial ecuatoriano, subrayando su relevancia para mejorar la eficiencia logística. Los métodos empleados incluyeron una revisión sistemática de la literatura, abarcando una variedad de estudios que exploran la implementación de sistemas de gestión integrados, tecnologías Blockchain y RFID, así como los desafíos asociados. Los resultados revelan una penetración generalizada de la digitalización en diversos sectores, desde la manufactura hasta la agroindustria. La discusión aborda los desafíos identificados, como la ciberseguridad y la resistencia al cambio, y resalta las oportunidades estratégicas para mejorar la eficiencia operativa y la capacidad de respuesta del mercado. Las conclusiones subrayan la contribución de este estudio al entendimiento de la transformación digital en Ecuador y su relevancia para estrategias empresariales y políticas gubernamentales. Las limitaciones incluyen la disponibilidad variable de estudios específicos para ciertos sectores. En resumen, este artículo proporciona una visión integral de la digitalización de la cadena de suministro en Ecuador, ofreciendo insights valiosos para investigadores, empresas y responsables de políticas.
