Background Interventions with patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) had to adapt rapidly to the COVID-19 safety restrictive measures, leading to the widespread use of teletherapy as an alternative. Objectives The aims of this study were to compare the use of different intervention modalities with patients with SMI during the first wave of the pandemic and examine their association with emergency hospital visits and hospitalization rates six months later. Methods Records of 270 service users of fifteen outpatient mental health services across Spain, were retrospectively assessed. We retrieved clinical data and data on the modality of intervention received (in-person, over the phone, videoconferencing) in three time points (before, during and after the first COVID-19 wave). Also, data were retrieved regarding the frequency of their emergency hospital visits and hospitalization rates, two, four and six months later. Results During the first wave of the pandemic, teletherapy (over the phone and videoconferencing) was the modality most widely used, whilst in-person therapy sessions were significantly reduced, though they seemed to return to pre-COVID levels after the first wave had passed. Importantly, patients receiving teletherapy during the first wave seemed to have significantly fewer emergency visits and hospitalization rates four and six months later (χ2 = 13.064; p < .001). Multilevel analyses revealed that patients receiving videoconferencing interventions had fewer hospitalizations six months after the first wave (OR = 0.25; p = .012). Conclusions Under challenging circumstances as those created by the COVID pandemic, teletherapy is a useful tool for protection against hospitalizations and can be used as an alternative to in-person therapy, to ensure continuity of care for patients with SMI.

E-health offers new opportunities for self-management, health and social care and access to health information. Over the last decade, the use of e-health solutions by patients, healthcare providers, professionals and citizens has increased significantly. This article provides an overview of e-health innovations in Poland, Spain, Romania and Estonia, focussing on the digital development of healthcare services. It outlines the concept of e-health and the innovative solutions the countries listed have introduced in this area. They all face challenges such as the cost of implementing new technologies, data access and the security of patient data. As a result, there is a constant need for coordinated collaboration, legislation and clear guidelines for the use of technology in healthcare. The lessons learnt from these countries are helping to shape the digital future of healthcare in Europe. In Poland, the Ministry of Health oversees the eHealth Centre, which has made remarkable progress in the field of eHealth services such as the Internet patient account, electronic prescriptions and electronic referrals. The biggest challenges include financing innovation and improving digital skills. Poland has also recently introduced the no-fault system as an alternative compensation system for medical errors, modelled on similar systems in Denmark and Sweden. Technological progress is driving the transformation of the Spanish healthcare system, which is particularly evident in the area of telemedicine and innovative healthcare systems. The Spanish Digital Health Strategy lines up with broader national initiatives. Despite challenges such as underfunding, Romania has introduced digital healthcare with the Health Electronic Record since 2014. As an absolute pioneer in the digitalisation of healthcare in Europe, Estonia is proud of its achievements in the digitalisation of healthcare data and services. The Estonian eHealth Foundation and the nationwide health information system are an example of seamless integration and set a benchmark for comprehensive digital healthcare.

Objetivos: Este estudio se propuso analizar y resumir la bibliografía en los campos de E-Salud, M-Salud y Farmacoterapia, con un enfoque en investigaciones relacionadas con la implementación de tecnologías de la información en la atención de la salud y la optimización de la farmacoterapia. Metodología: Se enfatizó la importancia de la gestión del conocimiento y la información en la mejora de la calidad de vida de las personas, respaldando así los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible en el ámbito de la salud. Resultados: se propuso un nuevo modelo para el desarrollo de M-Salud, organizado en dimensiones y factores de verificación. En el campo de la Farmacoterapia, se destacaron dos libros que proporcionan información fundamental sobre teoría, técnicas y normativas para un tratamiento eficaz y seguro. En el análisis de las publicaciones sobre M-Salud, se subrayó la necesidad de generar evidencia sobre su eficacia y costo-efectividad a nivel nacional. Conclusión: En conclusión, este estudio resalta la relevancia de la tecnología en la atención de la salud y la farmacoterapia, así como la importancia de compartir conocimiento y experiencias en estos campos. Proporciona una visión general de los hallazgos en E-Salud, M-Salud y Farmacoterapia, ofreciendo pautas para futuras investigaciones y mejoras en la implementación de tecnologías de la información en la atención médica y la optimización de la terapia farmacológica
