Laboratories at work: Research in the field of abrasive wear at the university of mining and technology, Freiberg

Abstract

THE ORGANlSATlONThe Freiberg University of Mining and Technology (Lampadius-strai3e 4, D-09596) has a student population of about 2000, studying subjects as diverse as geology and business administration, as well as mechanical engineering. Within the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, there is a small tribological research group, consisting of four researchers, who concentrate on maintenance and abrasive wear research. The group has developed close relations with local industry, especially with heavy industry and with the coal mining industries. It also gives support to visiting scientists from Germany and abroad who come to work on particular projects.
