Laboratory evaluation on water-based and flexible epoxy/SiO2 nanocomposites to enhance anti-sliding effectiveness of pavement

Abstract: The anti-slip (AS) layer of the cement concrete pavement (CCP) can probability decrease traffic accidents and extend the service life of the road. Epoxy resin has excellent adhesion and mechanical strength, making it possible in this field. Herein, a flexible waterborne epoxy resin (WER) without a small molecule emulsifier was synthesized by bisphenol A epoxy resin, poly (propylene glycol) diglycidyl ether (PDE), diethylenetriamine (DETA). The mechanism of the group reaction was characterized by fourier transf… Show more

“…XRD pattern in figure 2(d) shows that the concrete is composed of quartz (SiO 2 ), calcium silicate, calcium silicate hydrate, calcium hydroxide, ettringite and calcium carbonate. This was in the agreement with previous publications [27,28]. In the SEM images, it could be seen that the size of the bumpers on the surface of C-3 sample is less than 3 μm, which is smaller than of that of C-1 and C-2 samples.…”

“…Yan et al used WER with an epoxy value of 0.44 eq/100g to study the rheological properties of emulsified asphalt [21]. Sun et al reviewed the laboratory research on the skid resistance of asphalt pavement modified by WER with the epoxy value of 0.51 eq/100g and nano-silica composite [22]. Nevertheless, a single kind of WER-EA is usually used in previous studies, resulting in insufficient research on the differences in the effects of epoxy values on WER-EA.…”
