Landfill Mining Applications in the Lombardy Region

Abstract

Landfill Mining is still today a rare activity in Italy, certainly due to the high costs of realization, the difficulty of finding outlets for the waste extracted and its quality. An important contribution is given by unclear administrative procedure in the absence of a regulatory framework that contemplates this case. However, something is moving: in the last year in the Lombardy Region two interventions have been approved and implemented and a third is at the Environmental Impact Assessment procedure. All of them are aimed at the recovery of areas and have in common a limited extension and depth, an absence of environmental contamination and focus on a type of waste easy to recover/dispose of.In the last few years in the Lombardy Region four experiences of LFM application have been proposed; this shows S.
