Langevin equation for a dissipative macroscopic quantum system: Bohmian theory versus quantum mechanics

Abstract: In this study, we solve analytically the Schrodinger equation for a macroscopic quantum oscillator as a central system coupled to a large number of environmental micro-oscillating particles. Then, the Langevin equation is obtained for the system using two approaches: Quantum Mechanics and Bohmian Theory. Our results show that the predictions of the two theories are inherently different in real conditions. Nevertheless, the Langevin equation obtained by Bohmian approach could be reduced to the quantum one, when… Show more

“…We investigate the transition between the states |P * 1 P 2 and |P 1 P * 2 by calculating the probability of finding the excitation in each state after time t in the presence of a harmonic environment. The Hamiltonian of the entire system can be introduced as Ĥ = Ĥs + Ĥε + Ĥsε (7) where Ĥε is the Hamiltonian of the environment and H sε is the system-environment interaction Hamiltonian which in our formalism [36][37][38] has the form…”

“…The evolution of an open quantum system is non-unitary and follows master equations instead of Schrödinger's equation [1,2]. In recent years, there are many works in some fields of quantum mechanics such as quantum foundations, quantum optics, quantum information, quantum biology, etc that investigate the effect of the environment on quantum systems and decoherence theory; the literature on this subject is vast [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11].…”
