Laparoscopic gastric plication and its effect on saccharide and lipid metabolism: a 12-month prospective study.

Abstract: IntroductionLaparoscopic greater curvature plication (LGCP) is a novel restrictive technique that reduces gastric volume by plication of the greater curvature. The advantage of LGCP is its reversibility in comparison to laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Nowadays, the long-term LGCP efficacy, safety and metabolic effect are being investigated.AimTo assess body composition, clinical complications and metabolic changes in obese patients 6 and 12 months after laparoscopic greater curvature plication.Material and me… Show more

“…Post-operative diet is another factor that influences glucose homeostasis. These findings illustrate that, like LSG, RYGB including LGCP also has a metabolic effect, agreeing with a short-term study (13,27) reporting that 96.9% of type 2 DM patients exhibited (at the least) some improvement of their preoperative diabetic status 6 months after LGCP, with pre-and postprandial improvement of insulin sensitivity (16,28).…”

“…Bužga et al investigating the long-term impact of laparoscopic greater curvature plication (LGCP) obtained similar results to the aforementioned study. They observed only a slight, but not significant, decrease in FGF-21 levels in 52 obese subjects one year after the surgery [ 75 ]. Distinct results were reported by Jansen et al who performed a study on 35 morbidly obese adults subjected to laparoscopic RYGB [ 76 ].…”
