Introduction. Myoid angioendothelioma of the spleen is an extremely rare form of a benign splenic tumor. There is no characteristic symptomatology for this disease. Case outline. We present four patients operated on for myoid angioendothelioma of the spleen. Three patients were without problems while one had nonspecific problems. Two patients underwent laparoscopic surgery and two underwent open splenectomy. In all patients, the definitive diagnosis was confirmed by histopathological examination. Discussion. By reviewing the aforementioned medical databases of published papers in English, we found a total of eight cases of myoid angioendothelioma of the spleen. In addition to the mentioned number, we have added our series of cases. Conclusion. Twenty-one years after the discovery of myoid angioendothelioma of the spleen, the small number of cases presented in the literature is still a limiting factor in making conclusions and in learning lessons about this disease

Introduction: Benign tumors of the spleen are a rare condition. Their pathogenesis and clinical presentation represent a diagnostic and surgical challenge in the sense of establishing the correct diagnosis and selecting the appropriate surgical approach. Case report: In our paper, we are presenting a 45-year-old female patient who was initially tested and examined because of nonspecific complaints manifesting as occasional pain in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen. The values of the laboratory findings were within the reference range and preoperative radiological diagnostics indicated the existence of a mass in the spleen which had the features of a tumor. Based on the preoperative diagnostic finding we decided to perform laparoscopic splenectomy. Postoperative recovery was without adverse events, and the patient has prescribed the necessary vaccination and antibiotic prophylaxis. Conclusion: Myofibroblastic tumor of the spleen represents, as far as its origin is concerned, a mystery, with its very limited and nonspecific presentation of symptoms, which is why each individual case must be approached seriously. Laparoscopy has a very important role in the treatment of this disease, bearing in mind all the advantages of a minimally invasive approach over open surgery.

Sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation of the spleen: a case report

Sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of the spleen is an uncommon primary benign condition with specific histopathological characteristics. The majority of the patients are usually asymptomatic and present for treatment after an incidental finding on a routine abdominal imaging. The differential diagnosis includes other benign tumours, as well as primary malignancy or metastases of unknown origin. We report a 55-year-old woman who was presented to the surgical team of our hospital for splenectomy after the investigation of an incidental splenic lesion led to the diagnosis of SANT. The pathology report of the specimen repeated the initial diagnosis. The patient has not yet presented any complication or recurrence of the disease 8 months after the operation. From such infrequent cases, the most valuable conclusion which can be yielded is that the more the number of patients reported, the more the knowledge about the disease is broadened.
