Laparoscopy Endoscopy Cooperative Surgery for Inflammatory Fibroid Polyp in the Esophagus

Abstract: Inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) appears most often in the stomach. We herein report an extremely rare case of esophageal IFP resected using laparoscopy endoscopy cooperative surgery (LECS). A 73-year-old man with dysphagia underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy. A 50-mm semi-pedunculated submucosal tumor was observed in the esophagogastric junction. Endoscopic ultrasonography showed a homogeneous, hypoechoic, and well-vascularized tumor in the second and third layers of the stomach, but endoscopic ultrasonograp… Show more

“…The indications for LECS for gastric SET have gradually been expanded to include tumors that are technically difficult to resect, such as larger lesions and those located at the esophagogastric junction (EGJ), with improvement of the techniques 9,12 and, accordingly, revision of the treatment guideline recommendations in Japan. However, concern remains regarding the feasibility and safety of applying LECS in relatively difficult cases, with the outcomes of LECS, including those requiring advanced skills, still being largely unknown with only a few case reports in the literature 13,14 …”
