Large-scale data analysis on aviation accident database using different data mining techniques

Abstract: Data mining is an iterative process in which progress is defined by discovery through either automatic or manual methods. A data cleaning procedure is proposed to improve the quality of classification tasks in the knowledge discovery process by taking into account both redundant and conflicting data. The redundancy check is performed on the original dataset and the resultant dataset is preserved. This resultant dataset is then checked for conflicting data and, if any are found, they are corrected and updated o… Show more

“…However, some researchers pointed out that SVM had difficulty in training large‐scale datasets (Lin & Lin, 2003). In contrast, DT and KNN were reported to be compatible with large‐scale samples (Christopher et al, 2016; Z.‐Y. Deng et al, 2016).…”

“…Novel techniques for extracting information out of large datasets have increasingly geared their focus towards adaptability and compatibility with different operating platforms, as well as classes of data [11]. Such data-driven methods often fall into two main categories: predictive and descriptive [12]. The former has as a key objective to develop a model for representing the phenomena driving a dataset, which can then be applied in generating new information and outcomes based on trends extracted from existing data.…”

“…To explore the context of an accident, the database of the report system is commonly analyzed, particularly for the aviation industry [10,114,115]. However, a team's cognitive process is the fundamental of this thesis, which cannot be properly recorded and communicated.…”
