Abstract:Quantum dot lasers readily lase from multiple distinct energy states. We examine the influence of optical injection into the ground state (GS) when the free-running operation is the first second excited state (ES) only and demonstrate the existence of an injection-induced bistability between GS emission and ES emission. There is a consequent hysteresis loop in the lasing output. Experimental and numerical investigations are in excellent agreement.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
