“…He (2003) analyzed 18 TIMS U-series dates on the coral reefs from the South China Sea and suggested that the sea level around 5000 yr BP is relatively high. Davis et al (2000), based on the dates of a relict shell horizon, argued that at ∼ 5140 yr BP, sea level in South China coast was 4-5 m higher than at present and this high stand may explain development of geomorphic features such as emerged beaches and wave-out platforms. Zhao et al (1979), according to the studies on the sedimentological characteristics and forming chronology for Holocene stratums in the coast of Hainan Island, identified multiple episodes of sea-level stands in the south China Sea since ∼6000 yr BP, and one episode took place between 5200-4900 yr BP.…”
