Lead Exposure in Trader Communities in Industrial Area of the Battery Recycling Plant: Tangerang, Indonesia

Abstract: The aim of this study was to look at the risk of community around the battery recycling plant in terms of the exposure to lead dust. The number of respondents amounted to 60 people from an industrial area and a residential area. The sample of the industrial area included 30 respondents with a composition of 15 men and 15 women. “…The mean value of uHA in the exposed and control group are 420.91 and 387.99 mg/g creatinine, respectively ( Table 3 ). For all respondents, the uHA concentration is below the recommended value set by The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) that is < 1600 mg/g creatinine [ 31 , 32 ]. In similar studies, high toluene exposure (mean 71.29 ppm) will escalate uHA concentration up to 5790 mg/g creatinine, way higher than the recommended value [ 33 ].…”

“…Average Daily Dose (ADD) was determined after measurement result of heavy metal content in the filter, which is calculated as follows: where ADD (mg/kg.day), DA is heavy metal dose (mg/cm 2 .event), EV is exposure frequency (event/day), ED is exposure duration (years), EF is exposure frequency (hours/year), SA is available skin surface area for contact (10,700 cm 2 ), BW is Body Weight (kg), and AT is average time (days) [ 21 , 22 ].…”

“…Wet temperature, dry temperature, and air humidity were measured using a sling psychrometer (Bacharach 0012-043, USA). A personal sample pump (Gilian 800i, USA) was used to measure Cr in the breathing zone (Oginawati et al 2020;Asbach et al 2017).…”

“…Because only Cr 6+ exposure was calculated in this study, the value of HI = HQ. HI values > 1 indicate that the dose of Cr 6+ exposure has a potential hazard to human health (Oginawati et al 2020;Goumenou and Tsatsakis 2019;Qing et al 2015). Urine samples of respondents (± 50 mL) were taken in the afternoon after they finished their work.…”
