Leaf-litter Entomofauna as a Parameter to Evaluate Areas Under Ecological Restoration

Abstract: The aim of this study was to characterize the leaf-litter entomofauna in degraded areas under restoration process with different restoration techniques, using the native forest as a reference and ecological indexes as parameters to select bioindicator groups. The study was conducted at "Serra do Itajaí" National Park (PNSI). The survey was conducted from winter/2014 to autumn/2016. The characterization of sampled communities was performed using identification, order, families and faunal indexes such as frequen… Show more

“…Biological indexes should be sensitive to a range of biological impacts, not just narrow indicators, since the biological attributes chosen as measures must be capable of discriminating the impacts caused by man of variations from those of natural origin (temperature, speed of current) (Cristo et al, 2018). Therefore, the results were analyzed in a two-dimensional fashion, over time for each sampling point, and in a general way, with the aim of trying to discriminate against potential impacts on termite fauna.…”

“…The insects can be used to determinate the anthropic interference in various ecosystems in bio-monitoring. Therefore, there has been an interest to obtain information about their dynamics, thus gaining insight about the ecosystem quality (Cristo et al, 2018).…”

“…Biological diversity is the variability among living organisms of all possible types of communities (Magurran, 2013), and functional diversity is closely related to environmental quality (Laureto et al, 2015). The diversity of insects is widely applied as bioindicator and can provide information about disturbances or human interferences in the ecosystem (Cristo et al, 2019, Sabella et al, 2015. In this context, forests ecosystems are under pressure, once they have always played a key role in society activities and development, especially economically, leading to modifications on all trophic levels and consequently affecting the life, abundance, richness, and diversity of other populations living in forests (Camara et al, 2018;Fierro et al, 2021).…”
