Six sigma as a proven improvement methodology has been widely used among organizations in various industries. It focuses on improving production processes, reducing variation, and eliminating waste leading to higher efficiency and profitability. Six sigma has been applied in Indonesian manufacturing industries and continues to grow. This paper discussed six sigma implementations in Indonesian manufacturing industries that identifies sigma levels from various manufacturing sectors and summarizes current evidence that contributes to revealing the current sigma level. This study reviews six sigma project cases from one of six sigma consulting firms in Indonesia. Six sigma project cases were collected from 2019-2022, the total project cases during that period included 120 six sigma project, and 58 projects that meet the criteria has been selected for this study. The results show that from 58 selected projects, the average sigma value of the observed industries was 3.7 before improvement and 4.1 after improvement. However, the highest sigma level before improvement was 4.8 which came from fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector and the highest sigma level after improvement was 5.4 which came from the packaging sector.

Improve Product Quality and Production Process with Integration of Six Sigma and Quality Management System ISO 9001: A Case Study of Bakery Shop in France

This study highlights macarons product research conducted in a bakery shop in France. It is aims to optimize the quality of the macarons products via the integration of Six Sigma and Quality Management System, ISO 9001. To achieve the objective, the study first identifies the primary root cause of product defects. Besides, an alternative standard operating procedure is incorporated with the recommended improvements. The DMAIC approach is emphasized by the Six Sigma approach, which is Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control. According to the data, the cost of poor quality for a month is 34,511.40 Euro. Cracked macarons (53.70%), hollow macarons (16.30%), and no feet macarons (16.10%) are three major critical defects. The macarons product has a Sigma level of 2.50. The parameters proposed in this study are low-level mixing at 80 rpm, 12 minutes of baking time, and 203°c oven temperature to improve the quality of macarons product using the Design of Experiment (DOE) of the Taguchi Method. When the major elements are controlled inside the processes, the company's chances of producing a high-quality product increase significantly. As a result of adopting Six Sigma with Quality Management System ISO 9001 into the macaron manufacturing process, defects costs and rate is expected to be lower.

The application of lean six sigma to improve mining transportation overall vehicle effectiveness (MTOVE): a case study in mining company

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a case study the application of lean six sigma combined with mining transportation overall vehicle effectiveness (MTOVE) to improve mining transportation performance. MTOVE is a newly developed model to measure the overall effectiveness of mining transportation. Design/methodology/approach The method used is case study combines the MTOVE and LSS methodologies. Data were collected from the hauling operation during a three-month period. Various lean six-sigma tools, such as the Pareto chart, ANOVA, two sample t-tests, one sample t-test, cause-and-effect analysis and time study, have been used. Findings The case study resulted in improvement of vehicle overall effectiveness; a 35% increase in MTOVE value, a 17% improvement in productivity and a 9% increment in truck utilization. Statistical tests confirmed the significance of reducing the mean and variation in the hauling process cycle time, which led to productivity improvement. Research limitations/implications This study provides practitioners with additional quantitative evidence of the potential benefits of LSS methods in the coal mining industry. Practical implications This paper practically and unquestionably has contributed to the LSS body of knowledge focused on the mining sector, which is recently still far behind the manufacturing sector. The study has demonstrated that some challenges in the mining environment can be solved through the effective implementation of LSS tools. Hence, this paper could be used as a reference for both researchers and practitioners. Social implications The study contributes in the field of LSS spread in mining industries using a case study. This study shows practical evidence of improving overall vehicle effectiveness using LSS. Practitioners can refer to this study to understand the benefits of LSS in mining sector. Since the mining industry should also adopt the LSS principle into the mining business process due to its ability to improve business performance (Valente et al., 2020; Tupamahu et al., 2019; Zanon et al., 2021). Originality/value There has been little scientific study of the LSS implementation in the mining industry. This research provides detailed evidence of LSS implementation in the mining sector. The main contribution is the implementation framework, which shows the combination of newly developed indicators (MTOVE and LSS) to enhance hauling operation effectiveness. This paper demonstrates how LSS tools and methods can be applied in the mining transportation industry.
