Leptin and NUCB2/Nesfatin-1 in Acute Appendicitis

Abstract: Objective: Appetite loss is seen in 90% to 95% of patients with acute appendicitis; however, the cause of this symptom remains unknown. This study is performed to determine whether changes in the blood levels of two anorexigenic hormones, leptin and NUCB2/nesfatin-1, can help to diagnose acute appendicitis in children and whether these two parameters can distinguish acute appendicitis from abdominal pain. Methods: Sixty children with comparable ages and body mass indices are divided into three groups of 20 chi… Show more

“…Despite all the advances, with many laboratory studies conducted to achieve a better diagnosis, appendicitis is still a significant cause of morbidity and even mortality. Although many studies have focused on 5-HIAA, CRP, procalcitonin, interleukins, leptin and NUCB2/nesfatin-1, lipopolysaccharide binding protein, etc., appendicitis is still difficult to diagnose at an early stage with such laboratory tests (Rodriguez-Sanjuan et al 1999 ; Apak et al 2005 ; Mentesa et al 2009 ; Brănescu et al 2012 ; Bakal et al 2015 ). Further research is needed to develop laboratory diagnostic methods to reduce negative laparotomy rates and the incidence of perforated appendicitis.…”

“…İştahsızlık: Leptin, NUCB2/Nesfatin-1 gibi anoreksijenik hormonların düzeylerindeki oynamaların araştırıldığı çalışmalarda bu hormonların ameliyat öncesinde yüksek olmasının iştahsızlıktaki etken olabileceği öne sürüldüğü gibi düzey değişikliği olmadı-ğı da bildirilmiştir (119,151,152,274) .…”
