Lepton and quark mass matrices

Abstract: We propose a model that all quark and lepton mass matrices have the same zero texture. Namely their (1,1), (1,3) and (3,1) components are zeros. The mass matrices are classified into two types I and II. Type I is consistent with the experimental data in quark sector. For lepton sector, if seesaw mechanism is not used, Type II allows a large ν µ -ν τ mixing angle. However, severe compatibility with all neutrino oscillation experiments forces us to use the seesaw mechanism. If we adopt the seesaw mechanism, it tu… Show more

“…Of course, the coupling matrices y (1) and y (2) are still indeterminate. We fix the matrix y (2) by choosing a single suitable value for all elements of the µ-τ block and a smaller value for the rest of the matrix. As has already been mentioned in [3], our broad conclusions do not depend on this 'working rule'.…”

“…[33] where generic texture-zeros are required for the mass matrices of both charged leptons and neutrinos. These cases include the well-studied parallel structures where both mass matrices have the same texture-zeros [34][35][36][37][38]. We refer to ref.…”

“…Therefore, the form of mass matrices with two texture zeroes is invariant under the action of the seesaw mechanism of type I [31,32,34,61]. It may also be noticed that, if we set b ν R = 0 or/and c ν R = 0, the resulting expression for M ν L still has two texture zeroes.…”
