Lepton number violation in 331 models

Abstract: Different models based on the extended SU (3)C × SU (3)L × U (1)X (331) gauge group have been proposed over the past four decades. Yet, despite being an active research topic, the status of lepton number in 331 models has not been fully addressed in the literature, and furthermore many of the original proposals can not explain the observed neutrino masses. In this paper we review the basic features of various 331 models, focusing on potential sources of lepton number violation. We then describe different modif… Show more

“…In addition to one radiative Dirac neutrino mass model [407], several radiative Majorana neutrino mass models have been proposed at 1-loop level [408][409][410][411][412][413][414][415][416][417][418][419][420][421][422][423][424], 2loop order [425][426][427][428][429][430], 3-loop order [431], and even at 4-loop order [98]. As lepton number violation (LNV) in 331 models and in particular neutrino mass generation has been discussed in a recent review [432], we refer the interested reader to it for a detailed discussion. However, we highlight one model based on gauged lepton number violation [420][421][422], which generates neutrino mass via lepton number violation in the 1-loop diagram shown in Fig.…”

“…Extensions with vector-like leptons in nontrivial SU(2) L representations are also possible [432]. Unsurprisingly, the phenomenology [423,425,[433][434][435] and direct search constraints [433,434] for L-violating, doubly charged vector bosons are similar to L-violating, doubly charged scalar bosons, which we now discuss.…”

“…The Type II mechanism can be embedded in a number of extended gauge scenarios, for example the LRSM as discussed in Sec. 3.1.4, as well as GUTs, such as (331) theories [423][424][425][426] and the extensions of minimal SU(5) [427]. For (331) models, one finds the presence of bileptons [428,429], i.e., gauge bosons with L = ±2 charges and hence Q = ±2 electric charges.…”

“…Once φ 1,2 obtain vevs, the SM charged leptons mix with the vector-like state and the charged lepton masses can be made to agree with the experimental data. As discussed in [42], correctly fitting the τ mass requires…”
