Introduction: Work related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) are currently one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. However, information on their prevalence and associated factors remains insufficient in Cameroon. Objective: Determine the prevalence and associated factors of WRMSDs among the staff of the University of Dschang (UDs). Methods: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study from 05 February to 18 March 2020 during which a modified Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) was administered face-to-face with participants. A convenient type non-probability sampling was used for the selection of participants. The data collected were analyzed with EPI info 7.2.2.6. A bi-variate analysis was conducted to determine factors associated with WRMSDs. Results: We enrolled 425 participants. The 12-month prevalence of WRMSDs was 93.88%. Almost half of the participants (49.18%) were prevented from their normal activities due to WRMSDs in the past 12 months. The most affected body region was the lower back with a prevalence of 71. 53%. The occurrence of WRMSDs at the UDs was significantly associated with: stress (P<0.01; OR=5.96); intense physical exertion (P<0.01; OR=3.45) and repetitive movements (P<0.01; OR=2.98). Conclusion: UDs staff is a high-risk population for WRMSDs. It is imperative to protect this human capital by preventing and treating WRMSDs.

Background: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) are a major health issue for low-income countries because of their high prevalence among workers and on account of the scarcity of ergonomic preventative measures in the workplace.Objectives: To determine the prevalence of WRMSDs among weavers, assess their consequences, and analyse the associated occupational risk factors.Method: A cross-sectional survey was carried out among 257 handloom weavers using the Nordic questionnaireand the working conditions were assessed through a descriptive analysis using the key indicator method.Results: The WRMSDs annual prevalence was 85% in all parts of the body, 71% for the low back region, 41% for the shoulders, and 37% for the knees. One quarter of the weavers indicated having stopped work for 1–30 days because of their low back pain (LBP). The prevalence of WRMSDs was associated with the number of hours worked per day, the years of experience, and age. Long working hours, load carrying ( 20 kg – 25 kg), awkward postures, repetitive limb movements, and unfavourable environmental conditions were identified as occupational risk factors.Conclusion: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are common among weavers and LBP is the most frequently cited disorder and the primary reason for work interruptions and a decrease of activities. The prevalence of WRMSDs is associated with professional and personal factors. Actions based on ergonomic rules are necessary to prevent WRMSDs.Clinical implications: Our study highlights the issue of WRMSDs and the need for prevention in the informal sector, which constitutes the major part of economic activity in low-income countries.

Objectives of the study. Show how the organizational context influences the type of regulation of the activity implemented by the nurses during their activity in order to maintain the performance in service of care while maintaining its own health.Method. An ergonomic-type activity analysis of six nurses was conducted in three geriatric care units. Following these open observations, a thematic analysis was carried out.Results. The analysis of our data consisted in identifying three types of regulation used by the nurses: time management, space and material management and finally the management of the workload by the collective work contained in the organizational context care services.Conclusion. This article enriches the many research on the work of caregivers by linking the organizational context with the type of regulation of the activity used by caregivers to maintain the productivity of the care service and preserve their health.
