Lesion Sterilization and Tissue Repair (LSTR)-3mix MP Therapy showed Reliable Efficacy against the Most Resistant Endodontic Bacteria Enterococcus faecalis

Abstract: Sterilization of bacteria in root canal system is one of the prominent problems. Some bacteria could remain in root canal even after using conventional medicaments. Evidences suggested that Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) caused substantial root canal infections. So, elimination of such organism is important to achieve treatment success. Research hypothesis: Sterilization of root canal with Lesion Sterilization and Tissue Repair (LSTR)-3mix MP Therapy is thought to be more effective against E. faecalis com… Show more

“…Root canal filling is carried out after 60 days. 2,3,11,12,13 Ibrahim et al 14 have recently conducted an in vitro study to assess the effect of associating these three antibiotics on inhibiting E. faecalis. The authors recommend associating these three antibiotics with a view to inhibiting these anaerobic bacteria which are so recurrent in endodontic infections.…”

“…Similarly, the research conducted by Takushige 6 also showed successfull LSTR 3Mix-MP treatment, about 79% of his cases. Besides that, the research conducted by Kuswandari 10 and Khalil 11 also pointed out that LSTR 3Mix-MP treatment on primary molar teeth with diagnosis of pulp necrose is considered to be a successful procedure, which the level of success reached 100% in two months of treatment. Furthermore, Kuswandari 10 also stated that the early condition of primary molar teeth before LSTR 3Mix-MP treatment determined the level of clinical recovery.…”

“…[6][7][8] In addition, in vitro and in situ researches are done extensively for analyzing the affectivity of mixing medicines (3Mix) towards bacteria in oral mouth, including endodontic lesion in permanent teeth. The research of LSTR 3Mix-MP on permanent dental actually has been done before by Hoshino, 9 Kuswandari, 10 and Khalil, 11 nevertheless, other supporting researches are still needed in different places in order to examine whether this treatment is also effective for primary molar teeth considering with the morphological difference between the crown of primary molar teeth and that of permanent teeth with many difficulties in maintaining root canal. The wider dentin tubules of primary molar teeth and the thinner enamel of primary molar teeth than those of the permanent teeth can make the spreading of bacteria into root canal easier.…”

“…CTZ paste is composed of two broad-spectrum antibiotics, chloramphenicol and tetracycline, and zinc oxide and eugenol, which also exhibit antimicrobial activity. 3 3Mix paste is composed of three broad-spectrum antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, and minocycline) added to distinct vehicles, such as macrogol and propylene glycol (MP), 4,5 or saline solution. 6 Several factors may influence the success of antimicrobial drugs, among them the minimum concentration, the type of infection, and the bacterial resistance.…”
