Lessons from SARS‑CoV‑2 and its variants (Review)

Abstract: coVid-19 has swept through mainland china by human-to-human transmission. The rapid spread of SarS-coV-2 and its variants, including the currently prevalent omicron strain, pose a serious threat worldwide. The present review summarizes epidemiological investigation and etiological analysis of genomic, epidemiological, and pathological characteristics of the original strain and its variants, as well as progress in diagnosis and treatment. Prevention and control measures used during the current omicron pandemic … Show more

“…Similar to previous studies, our ICU patients had higher admission clinical severity and CT scores than ward patients. In addition, both ICU and ward patients had pronounced lymphopenia, increased D-dimer, ferritin, hs-CRP, IL-6 levels, and LDH activity [ 25 , 26 ]. In accordance with other studies, LDH had predictive value regarding disease severity, organ failure, and mortality of COVID-19 patients [ 27 , 28 ].…”

“…1 The rapid spread of the coronavirus and its variants still poses a threat worldwide. 2 Vaccines have brought us hope, resulting in a decline in the risk of disease-related infections. 3 However, the virus undergoes mutations, 4 thereby affecting its properties and making it more aggressive and/or increasing the rate of transmissibility, which may affect the efficiency of neutralizing antibodies.…”
