Leveraging blockchain technology for circularity in agricultural supply chains: evidence from a fast-growing economy

Abstract: PurposeThe authors originally explore the factors for blockchain technology (BCT) adoption in agricultural supply chains (ASCs) to enhance circularity and understand the dependencies, hierarchical structure and causalities between these factors.Design/methodology/approachBased on an extant literature review and expert opinion, the present study identified ten enablers for adopting BCT to leverage the circular economy (CE) practices in the ASCs. Then, using an integrated interpretive structural modeling and dec… Show more

“…They employed interpretive logic on the BT enablers and used Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) and Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) methodology (Samad et al, 2022 ; Yadav et al, 2021 ) to establish otherwise complicated causal relationships. They found traceability (Sharma et al, 2021a , 2021b ) to be the most important enabler followed by immutability and provenance. Kouhizadeh et al ( 2021 ) utilised TOE and force-field theories along with DEMATEL to identify, classify and establish barriers to BT adoption.…”

“…Local food processing and preservation will be critical for food supply during a pandemic. Food preservation is concerned with extending food's shelf life while ensuring its safety (Sharma et al, 2021a). While lockdowns and border closures are used to combat COVID-19, locally produced and stored food can be used to fill the hole caused by the lockout limitations.…”
