Liability in Collaborative Maintenance of Critical System of Systems

Abstract: Our society is facing a growing dependency on services supported by multiple interconnected computing and cyberphysical artifacts, constituting complex systems-of-systems. Such dependence means that a web of technology suppliers and IT departments have the responsibility to guarantee the operational quality of such systems. In this scenario where dependable services are maintained and evolved by networks of organizations, the question is how to ensure a liability framework able to reduce or help to solve poten… Show more

“…With the increase in hyper-connectivity as well as in the intelligence / autonomy of machines and systems, it is necessary to further invest on regulatory frameworks coping with issues of responsibility, ethics, and compliance [11] among all entities involved in the CNs. For instance, in [106] there is some discussion on liability and "responsibility borders" in the case of multi-supplier systems-of-systems, but these issues need further developments as we move towards hybridization of CNs.…”

“…The technology selection can also use the Java Management Extension (JMX) protocol and the respective instrumentation modeling using Mbean to be managed by JMX agents. The monitoring of technology artifacts is of paramount importance to achieve reliable integrated systems, as discussed in the ISoS framework reliability [11]. OPE organizes the computational logic making a Service entity.…”
