Palm leaves are vegetal waste that are not widely used by the society, only piled up and causing odors that mix with the environment. Channeling this waste material into the construction industry helps to overcome waste disposal problems as well as promote sustainability. The most important features expected from the buildings are the creation of the most suitable environmental conditions for the products to be stored or the creatures that will live in them, and they can be used safely for a long time. In the construction of the buildings, materials that are the cheapest possible, safe and capable of creating the optimum environmental conditions should be used. The materials to be selected should have sufficient strength and durability, high heat and sound insulation and lightness. Since single-storey buildings are not subject to excessive load, it is important that the thermal insulation is high and light in material selection. Since the widespread use of concrete as a building material in the world, efforts to make concrete light, cheaper and better insulating have gained importance. Lightweight concrete, which is easy to apply, has been an important building material in recent years. With the use of lightweight concrete as a building material, benefits such as economy in terms of material, earthquake resistance, and the elimination of a second insulation material for heat and sound insulation can be achieved. In this study; Experimental study using Portland cement (CEM I), Palm Leaf, CEN standard sand and water mortar production; sample production, curing, some physical and mechanical experiments were carried out in four stages. The usability of palm leaf, which is a vegetable waste, as aggregate in concrete production by replacing it with CEN standard sand at 0, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40% as well as 10% with cement has been investigated. The study results show that the addition of both ground palm leaf and palm leaf aggregate significantly altered almost all properties of concrete. These changes are at different levels in terms of physical properties. As a result of the study, it was determined that as the amount of foam increased, the spreading diameter increased, whereas palm leaf addition decreased the spreading diameter. It has been determined that the addition of palm leaf decreases the depth of water treatment depending on time, the porosity of the samples with high level of palm leaf addition increases and the compression and bending strength decreases.

Concrete is the most used man-made material and foamed concrete is a type of concrete widely known with high workability, low density and excellent thermal and sound insulation properties. Its global market has also been predicted to increase. Growing of population and economy, along with urbanization generate wastes which increase yearly. One of the solutions to reduce waste in landfills is by using waste in manufacturing. Glass, classed as a form of ceramic waste (GCW) has been left in the landfills unrecycled due to the challenges it causes. The primary purpose of this research is to find the optimal GCW composition as a quartz sand additive for Foamed Concrete-based Glass Ceramic Waste (FC-GCW) which will reduce the amount of unrecycled GCW that ends upin landfills while producing a sustainable product. The samples were prepared by grinding the GCW and mixing varying percentages of GCW (0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30%) with a consistent quantity of cement, quartz sand, water, and foam. Physical (density, water absorption, porosity and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX)) test and analysis and mechanical (compressive strength) test were performed on the samples. During physical tests, the density increased as the GCW percentage increased, but water absorption andporosity decreased. FC-GCW 20% had appropriate density, water absorption, and porosity values of 0.887 g/cm3, 22.6 %, and 88.9%, respectively, which demonstrated that the material is lightweight and porous.For EDX analysis between FC-GCW control and FC-GCW 20%, it was found that when GCW was included, the weight percentage of Oxygen and Calcium decreased while the weight percentage of Silica increased, showing GCW increased Silica content, and pozzolanic reaction occurred to from Calcium Silicate Hydrate (C-S-H) gel.For mechanical testing, it was discovered that FC-GCW 20% had the highest average compressive strength of 0.94 MPa and 2.01 MPa for 7 and 28 days, respectively. This research's contribution can be applied to areas where low densities are preferred and low compressive strength is required, such as of road sub-base, fire breaks, raising floor level, void fill, harbour fill, bridge abutments and ground stabilization.

Phase change materials (PCMs) have the ability to absorb and release a large amount of energy during the process of transforming physical properties (i.e., phase transition process). PCMs are suitable for thermal energy storage and reducing energy consumption in buildings. The aim of the study is to assess the basic material properties and thermal behavior of fly ash foam concrete mixed with two different types of microencapsulated PCMs (PCM6D and PCM18D). We made five different varieties of fly ash foam concrete by replacing the equivalent unit weight of cement with PCM 0%, PCM10% and PCM30%. The results show that using a new type of mixer, the microencapsulated PCMs kept their spherical shapes without any cracks or damage in the foam concrete matrix. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis showed that PCM18D-30% had a latent heat capacity of 19.2 °C and 44.7 J/g, in liquid and solid phase with melting and freezing temperatures of 9.46 °C and 41.7 J/g respectively. Additionally, thermocycle analysis showed that it had maintained the temperature for 8 h within the phase change range. In conclusion, PCMs can reduce indoor temperature fluctuations and exhibit the potential for enhancing energy savings and thermal comfort of buildings.
