Lime and phosphate application as mycorrhizae stimulation to enhance growth and yield of Marandu grass

Abstract: Pastures are important food sources for Brazilian cattle herds. However, inadequate management of soil fertility has emerged as a major cause of low yield rates and of progressive degradation of these areas. The objective of the present study was to evaluate growth, by means of morphogenetic and structural characteristics, and yield of Brachiaria brizantha Stapf. cv. Marandu as functions of the application of the mycorrhizae stimulant formononetin, associated with lime and phosphate application. The experiment… Show more

“…Formononetin application influenced the variables RDM, TDM and DQI in L. leucocephala seedlings positively ( Table 2). The use of formononetine, as a stimulant of mycorrhization in plant cultization, has shown it has the capacity to stimulate colonization by native species of mycorrhizal fungi and so increase productivity in a variety of crops, including beans (LAMBAIS et al, 2003), potatoes (DAVIES (1995), soya (CORDEIRO et al, 2015) and pallisade grass (Urochloa brizantha = Brachiaria brizantha) (SANTIAGO et al, 2017).…”

“…Regarding leaf contents of P and K, values of 5.79 and 28.90 g kg -1 were obtained for the doses of 1.20 and 1.32 cmol c Ca dm -3 , respectively. Phosphorous establishes a strong relationship with Ca in the soil because of the significant increase in P availability with liming (Santiago et al, 2017).…”
