a b s t r a c t Photovoltaic (PV) solar energy is a promising source of electricity generation, but still at a relatively high cost. Nevertheless, distributed photovoltaic generation does not compete for land use, as it is incorporated into existing buildings, and should be analyzed from the standpoint of the final consumer, who perceives electricity prices rather than electricity generation costs. This study evaluates the technicaleconomic potential for installing PV in the Brazilian residential sector. Socio-economic characteristics, such as household income, electric power consumption, availability of rooftops, load curve, capital cost and financing, were considered. Technical-economic simulation tools were integrated into a geographical information system ('GIS') to permit a spatial analysis. Results indicate technological feasibility for urban and rural areas of Brazilian municipalities. In 2014, about 1500 sites would be ready to install photovoltaic panels, and in 2016 this number would reach 68,000 homes. For the year 2026, about 29 million residential units would be prepared to have photovoltaic panels installed. Of these, 3% would be high-income residences, and 52% would be situated in the country's Southeast region. The implementation of this impressive potential will depend also on the development of PV services in the country.

-A large number of regions are attractive for the application of renewable energy equipment, including those that are using the solar energy potential. But the volatile nature of the solar radiation flux requires specific forecasts and calculations of its intensity. Besides, installations under urban conditions are widely used in two forms: solar power plants which photovoltaic panels are placed at a certain angle to the horizon on a flat building roof; and integrated photovoltaic panels in the building construction. However, the use of such power supply systems is limited by the structural features of the roofs of buildings. That is why, it is necessary to take into account the mutual shading of the rows of photovoltaic panels and by the structural elements. This leads to limitation of the capacity of the installation and to shortage of the utilization of the solar energy technical potential for the installation placement. Integrating photovoltaic panels into the building structure, a decrease in the amount of generated electric energy are associated with a deviation from their optimal spatial orientation, which leads to reduction in the coefficient of the used installed capacity of electrical equipment, that is, the low efficiency of conversion of solar energy into electrical energy. That is why, an accurate assessment of the solar potential of renewable energy sources, taking into account the design features of urban development, allows one to justify the parameters of the generating unit at a design stage, and to predict its operating mode and to evaluate technical and economic efficiency.Keywords-solar energy, tilt angle of the receiving surface, orientation by the sides of the world

The findings in this study refute mathematical equation from existing research that has been determining the optimum tilt angle of the solar panel with a subtropical location perspective. This research found that the influence of degrees latitude (Y) and longitude (X) to the optimum angle of solar panel installation in the territory of Indonesia (tropical location) can be represented by the equation 0.0093 X + 1.3042 Y, with an RMSE value of 1.88 and an R squared value of 0.928. However, mathematical equations for optimum tilt angle based on the coordinates of locations in 9 different prefectures of Indonesia resulted in better RMSE and R squared values. The maximum potential economic benefit to be gained from the installation of solar panels at the optimum angle in Indonesia, assuming a feed-in tariff in Indonesia of US$ 0,25 and a solar panel capacity of 1 MW and production life of 20 years, is US$ 740.839,66.
