Abstract:A new limiting laser beam induced current (li-LBIC) measurement technique is described which allows the recovery of the true signal in an integrated photovoltaic (PV) module. It is a measurement based on optically exciting the device by scanning with a laser, where the probed cell is brought under limiting condition by means of manipulating the background illumination. The signal obtained is directly proportional to the laser strength, which was previously unobtainable by typical LBIC measurements in a module.… Show more
“…LBIC photocurrent mapping of PV modules presents significant problems as described in [11]. These experimental issues are compounded by long measurement runs, which increase the possibility that variations in temperature and environment can generate artifacts in the resultant current map, as shown in Fig.…”

“…However, the photocurrent detected upon illumination of a spot on any one particular cell in the seriesconnected module is measured over the entire series-connected module, with the other four cells in darkness. Therefore, in this highly mismatched condition [33], the measured photocurrent from a given illuminated spot is dependent on the resistivity introduced by the other non-illuminated cells.…”

“…This is necessary to ensure the cell under measurement is the limiting cell of the module. As there are no bypass diodes, the current measured at the contacts of the module is the current of the cell under test [10]. Current maps of fully encapsulated modules can be acquired with this simple setup.…”

“…The major advantage of using projection technology is that individual cells in encapsulated modules can be assessed. The cell under test can be current limited by adjusting the necessary CS patterns, while the rest of the cells are light biased [10].…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
