Link between carrot leaf secondary metabolites and resistance to Alternaria dauci

Abstract: Alternaria Leaf Blight (ALB), caused by the fungus Alternaria dauci, is the most damaging foliar disease affecting carrots (Daucus carota). In order to identify compounds potentially linked to the resistance to A. dauci, we have used a combination of targeted and non-targeted metabolomics to compare the leaf metabolome of four carrot genotypes with different resistance levels. Targeted analyses were focused on terpene volatiles, while total leaf methanolic extracts were subjected to non-targeted analyses using… Show more

“…As reported by Kathe et al [110], A. radicina is a fungal pathogen causing black rot disease of the carrot. According to Koutouan et al [32], Alternaria leaf blight, caused by A. dauci, is the most damaging foliar disease affecting carrots. In a study by Szopińska et al [1], carrot seedlings and seeds were infected mostly by fungi of the genera Alternaria and Fusarium.…”

“…Ultrahigh-pressure liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS) analyses were performed as described previously [57], with some modifications. Metabolites were extracted with methanol (25 µL/mg frozen fresh leaves) supplemented with an external standard (apigenin, 1 mg/L).…”

“…The extracted ion chromatograms that display a peak shape are then added to the peak lists. centWave as an efficient algorithm for high-resolution complex data and it became the basic one and used routinely to detect specialized plant metabolites (only to mention a few applications: [97,98,99]. An extension and complement of centWave is the Warpgroup method for increasing real peaks detection [100].…”
