Liposomes in chromatography

Abstract: The newest achievements in the application of liposomes in different chromatographic technologies such as high-performance liquid chromatography and electrically driven separation methods was compiled and critically evaluated. The employment of chromatographic methodologies for the determination of molecular parameters of biological importance is also discussed in detail. The future trends of the use of liposomes is also shortly discussed.

“…Beside nanoparticles, carbon‐based nanomaterials such as nanotubes, fullerenes, graphene which exhibit very good optical, electrochemical, and adsorptive properties are subject of constant investigation . Other nanomaterials which cannot be neglected nor considered less important are liposomes and dendrimers .…”

“…An especially attractive feature of the techniques is the possibility to on‐line couple surface plasmon resonance to MS for quantification and identification of substrates . Lipidomics in general is a growing field, and much research has been carried out on the analysis of liposomes by various techniques and on the use of liposomes in analyses, as well as on analyte–lipid membrane interactions; see [] and references therein.…”

“…Several studies on drug partition behavior have for example employed liposomes passively immobilized to chromatographic gel filtration media (2,3). More recently, chromatographic systems based on covalent coupling of liposomes to silica gels has also been reported (13)(14)(15).…”
