Lipoxin A4 generation is decreased in aspirin‐sensitive patients in lysine‐aspirin nasal challenge in vivo model

Abstract: Results of our study confirm that AIA have diminished LXs' biosynthesis capacities in vivo after ASA challenge. Taking into consideration anti-inflammatory properties of lipoxins this phenomenon may be partially responsible for the development of chronic inflammation in AIA patients.

“…NSAID hypersensitivity constitutes the most frequent cause of drug reactions . The most frequent entity is MNSAID‐UA, although it has not been studied in detail in comparison with AERD, where many studies have explored the release of mediators . MNSAID‐UA is also different from urticaria/angioedema caused by NSAIDs in patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria .…”

“…In addition, activation of enzymes of the arachidonic acid pathway may lead to increased production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, causing inflammatory symptoms such as pain and erythema (Kupczyk et al, 2009). Number of species used for each inflammation symptom indicated in the subcategories "wound", "contusion", "kidney", "uterus," "cut", "eye", "throat" and "tooth inflammation", which were the most frequently mentioned by respondents from the community of Carão, Altinho, Pernambuco.…”

“…This has been described in AERD as well. Decreased lipoxin production in AERD compared to ATA has been correlated with increased Cys-LT. AERD may diminish LX biosynthesis capacities in vivo after ASA challenge 13. Cys-LTs exert effects by binding to the Cys-LT receptors Cys-LTR1 and Cys-LTR2 14,15.…”
