“…In the latter, surface silanol groups on silicate precursors in a preformed ªsilicatropicº liquid crystal are considered to be responsible for the organization of surfactant molecules into the templating mesophase. [40,41] However, formation of a mesoporous silica in the absence of water or other solvents has not been reported to the best of our knowledge. This reveals the crucial importance of the Ti w O x (OH) y -(OEt) z nanocluster±surfactant interactions, which are in the case of silica much weaker, and for the true liquid-crystal mechanism restricted to hydrogen-bonding.…”

“…Subsequently, the templates were heated at 85 °C for 2 h and at 130 °C for 3 h, respectively, in the presence of 0.05 mL of 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane (97%, ABCR GmbH). Mesoporous SBA-15 precursor solutions were prepared according to protocols reported in the literature [2,9,10]. A typical procedure involves mixing TEOS (99+ %, Alfa Aesar), EO 20 PO 70 EO 20 (BASF, weight-average molecular weight Mw = 5800 g mol-1, Pluronic P123), 1.0 M HCl(aq) and ethanol as described elsewhere [9,10].…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5] However, their integration into device architectures still remains a challenge. Recent efforts have focused on the synthesis of MCM (Mobil Crystalline Material) [6,7] and SBA (Santa Barbara amorphous) type [6,[8][9][10][11][12][13]] materials inside porous supports characterized by straight, aligned pores oriented normal to the surface.…”

“…If the liquid phase micelles are combined with an electrochemical technique, the formation of nano-structures can selectively occur on a conductive substrate. Application of this technique for highsurface area battery materials was proposed by Attard et al , [ 170 ] and was proven to be an attractive method to yield porous fi lms of silica, [ 171 ] platinum, [ 170 , 172 ] tin [ 170 , 173 ] and nickel oxides [ 174 , 175 ] with a signifi cantly increased surface area. The pore size is in most cases very small, usually below 100 nm.…”
