Liquid Crystalline Polymer Stabilized FLCDs with Conventional Rubbed Polyimide Films or with Photo Alignment Films of Poly(vinyl Cinnamate)

Abstract: Polymer stabilized SSFLCDs have been successfully fabricated. A liquid crystalline polymer network in a device cell is formed by the photo-cure of UV photo-currable liquid crystalline monomers that are doped in an FLC, where both the rubbed polyimide (PI) and non-rubbed but linearly polarized UV irradiated poly(viny1 cinnamate) (PVCi) films are utilized as surface FLC molecular alignment. The actual monomers adopted is acrylate with a mesogenic side chain. The PVCi is one of the photo alignment polymer. The fa… Show more

“…Using the same smectic liquid crystal mixture shown in Figure 5, polymer assisted ferroelectric liquid crystal response phenomenon was investigated how the bookshelf layer structured small spontaneous polarization liquid crystal molecules show any specific electro-optic response, specifically its retardation switching behavior using polymer assisted ferroelectric liquid crystal configuration [54][55][56]. The detail of this empirical result is published [57].…”

“…A mono-functional acrylic monomer [3,10] (UCL-001 from DIC, Fig. 3), which can be polymerized by ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation, was mixed with FLC (CS-1030 from Chisso) and the nematic-phase solution was then coated onto the alignment layer.…”
