Liquid−Liquid Equilibria for the Ternary System Water + n-Tetradecane + 2-(2-n-Hexyloxyethoxy)ethanol at 293.15 K and 303.15 K

Abstract: Compositions of two-and three-phase liquid-liquid equilibria for the ternary system water + tetradecane + 2-(2-hexyloxyethoxy)ethanol at 293.15 K and 303.15 K at atmospheric pressure are presented in this paper. The experimental data were used to correlate the UNIQUAC interaction parameters, and no satisfactory results were obtained.

“…In addition, the phase behavior of mixtures of the type water + oil + C i E j also plays an important role in the fundamental work of critical phenomena, phase conductivity, and wetting transitions [3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. In our laboratory, recently, we have performed liquid-liquid equilibrium measurements on water + C i E j binary systems [10] and five ternary systems: water + dodecane + C 4 E 1 [11]; water + octane + C 4 E 2 [12]; water + decane + C 4 E 2 [13]; water + dodecane + C 6 E 2 [14]; and water + tetradecane + C 6 E 2 [15].…”

“…15 and 303.15 K for five different alkanes: hexane, octane, nonane, decane, and tetradecane. However, they reported the phase diagram of the ternary system water + tetradecane + 2-butyloxyethanol (C 4 E 1 ) only at 298.15 K. In this study, liquid-liquid equilibrium measurements were preformed for the ternary system water + tetradecane + C 4 E 1 in the temperature range from 298.15 to 338.15 K at atmospheric pressure.…”

“…The authors suggest, analyzing the behavior of different alkyl polyglycol ethers (C i E j ), that the monomeric solubility of the surfactant in oil and water might be the key to describe the main features of those microemulsion systems. Several works can be found in literature where compositions of tie-line ends and tie-triangles are determined for ternary systems water-oil-C i E j [11][12][13][14][15][16].…”

“…Chen et al [11][12][13][14] used the UNIQUAC model to correlate only the three-liquid-phase coexisting data. Data of the two-liquid-phase-coexisting regions were not used in the correlation.…”
