Liste révisée des Rongeurs du Sénégal

Abstract: This new check-list of the rodents of Senegal contains six more species than the previous one published by Hubert et al. (1973): Arvicanthis sp., Mastomys natalensis, Steatomys cuppedius, Gerbillus henleyi, Gerbillus cf. pyramidum and Jaculus jaculus. Moreover, the names of other species and genera have been corrected according to the more recent taxonomic reviews. Today, the check-list of Senegalese rodents is thus composed of thirty seven species belonging to ten different families. Resume. -Cette liste revi… Show more

“…Information on distribution and habitat tolerances of mammals was derived from the following sources: Morocco—Aulagnier & Thevenot (1986); Spain—Macdonald & Barrett (1993); Israel—Cheylan (1990a), Yom‐Tov & Kadman (1998); Senegal—Meester & Setzer (1971), Happold (1987), Duplantier & Granjon (1991). Further information on habitat tolerances came from Hufnagl (1972) and Kowalski & Rzebik‐Kowalska (1991).…”

“…Some of the species captured in this transect are known from Senegal and are present in the Hubert et al (1973) list updated by Duplantier and Granjon (1992) (Table V). By comparison with Mali, one notes the absence of sahelo-sudanian elements such as Taterillus, Gerbillus spp., M. haussa, M. musculoides but some sudanian-guinean taxa like A. ansorgei, L. striatus, T. guineae, M. mattheyi that are common between both countries.…”

“…This work can be added to that already available for the other African countries (e.g., review in Happold 1987, p. 297 and 298;Gautun et al 1985;Duplantier and Granjon 1992;Duplantier et aL, 1997;Robbins and Van der Straeten 1996;Mess and Krell 1999). Such large data sets are valuable for defining biogeographical areas, and for studying their dynamics and evolution.…”
