Liver cell lines for the study of hepatocyte functions and immunological response

Abstract: These HHLs retain primary hepatocyte phenotype and should be useful for investigating mechanisms of entry and replication of hepatotropic viruses, and should also be valuable in the study of hepatocyte biology and pathology.

“…The expression of multiple other proteins, such as the Ntcp bile acid transporter, cytochrome P450 enzymes, also changes during the primary culture of hepatocytes and in established cell lines. [33][34][35] Thus, prior The established rat hepatoma cell line McARH was stably transfected with either a control plasmid or a plasmid to express the bile acid transporter Ntcp. As indicated, cells were pretreated for 6 hours with PBS vehicle (VEH) or PTX (300 ng/mL) followed by exposure to TCA (100 mol/L).…”

“…HeLa cells were maintained at 37°C in a humidified 5% CO 2 environment in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium supplemented with 10% (v/v) fetal bovine serum, 50 units/ml penicillin, 50 g/ml streptomycin, and 2 mM L-glutamine. The hepatocyte-derived cell line HHL5 was a generous gift from Dr. Arvin H. Patel (University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland) (Clayton et al, 2005). HHL5 cells were maintained as described for HeLa cells, with the same culture medium but supplemented with 1% nonessential amino acids.…”
