Abstract:Background Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare, multisystemic disorder of connective tissue, characterized by widespread inflammation, vascular abnormalities, and both skin and visceral organ fibrosis. Tissue fibrosis is the final phase of a complex biological process of immune activation and vascular damage.
