Liver perfusion in dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI): comparison of enhancement in Gd-BT-DO3A and Gd-EOB-DTPA in normal liver parenchyma

Abstract: Gadoxetate-enhanced liver MRI results in early enhancement of normal parenchyma in patients The start of the hepatobiliary phase coincides with the late arterial phase. This may confound the assessment of lesion appearance compared to extracellular contrast. Different parenchymal enhancement patterns after gadoxetate were found for normal parenchyma.

“…Second, cross-sectional imaging can reveal perfusion of different muscle groups within a same field of view and even reveal intramuscle heterogeneity of blood flow. Dynamic contrastenhanced (DCE) MR imaging (MRI) has been widely adopted as a clinical tool for assessing tissue perfusion in many organs (27,36,41,53) and in cancers (26,31,51). In skeletal muscle (2, 13, 15, 29, 30), several groups have explored potential value of DCE MRI in assessing PAD.…”

“…Since completion of this study, a multi-slice adaption of the Look-Locker FAIR ASL sequence has been developed ( Campbell-Washburn et al , 2013 ). Utilising the vessel-selective pseudo-continuous ASL sequences ( Dai et al , 2008 ) could provide a direct method for separating the arterial and venous contributions to the liver blood supply, from which response biomarkers such as the hepatic perfusion index, a measure of the relative contribution of the two supplies in individual metastases, could be evaluated to further probe tumour pathophysiology ( Cuenod et al , 2001 ; Schalkx et al , 2014 ).…”

“…3B). 36,39,42 After Gd-BOPTA injection, the peak of liver enhancement and SNR is during the portal phase, with a subsequent slow increase of liver parenchyma signal, reaching a plateau at 60 minutes and lasting for approximately 60 minutes, when liver enhancement starts to decrease. Thus, for Gd-BOPTA the optimal timing of the hepatospecific phase is within 60 minutes and 120 minutes (Fig.…”
