The principal cause of death in these beagles, injected with 226Ra for study of radium metabolism, toxicity, and later somatic effects, was from osteosarcoma and skeletal fractures [6,7]. Pigmentary changes involving the retinal and choroidal melanotic tissues of the nontapetal fundus were observed, but were not quantitated because of considerable variability in ophthalmoscopic appearance of these tissues in control beagles.…”
