Location Problems in Healthcare

Abstract: In this chapter, we discuss facility location problems arising in the context of healthcare. We concentrate on three main areas: the most classical one is healthcare facility location which is closely related to public facility location. Secondly, we look at ambulance planning which includes ambulance location and relocation problems. In the last part, we give an overview of hospital layout problems. For all three parts, we state some important models and give an overview of relevant literature as well as curr… Show more

“…It is possible that the parents spent time outside their home with their children in a non-interactive way because families may only take their children to the park and the children may play themselves. For instance, Güneş (2015) argues that taking children to a park is not an activity which refers to spending quality time with their children. According to Güneş spending quality time with children refers to be a part of the spiritual dimension of the children.…”

“…In the recent period a concept has been developed to describe such advantages, namely spending quality time with children (Türkoğlu, Çeliköz and Uslu, 2013). Güneş (2015) argues that spending quality time with children does not refer to bringing the child to a park, but to be part of the child's mental state. Yavuzer (2001), states that the important things during the time with children are intensity and quality of time instead of its quantity and amount.…”

“…A model which reflects these characteristics is the p-Median problem (see (Daskin & Maass, 2015) [6] for reference). The p-Median is typically used to locate p facilities among a set of specified locations I to minimise the average distance between demand and the nearest facility, and it has been recognised as a staple model for healthcare facility location problems [7]. In this paper, the p-Median problem is modified to accommodate facilities operating during multiple time settings.…”

“…They realized that many operation researchers pay severe concentration on the strategic decisions rather than tactical and operational decisions in the vaccine distribution. Readers are suggested to refer to the review paper (G€ unes and Nickel, 2015). There are various research articles related to health-care location problems with a deterministic perspective, such as primary health centers, long-term health centers and preventive health-care stations (Tavana et al, 2021;G€ unes et al, 2014;Cardoso et al, 2015;Verter and Lapierre, 2002;Yue et al, 2009, Kamel andMousa, 2021).…”
