Long noncoding RNA HAS2‐AS1 promotes tumor progression in glioblastoma via functioning as a competing endogenous RNA

Abstract: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a refractory tumor with poor prognosis and requires more effective treatment regimens. It has been confirmed that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) substantially regulate various human disease including GBM. However, the biological roles and its underlying molecular mechanisms still need to be further investigated. In this study, the biological function and potential molecular mechanism of lncHAS2‐AS1 in GBM were explored. It was discovered that HAS2‐AS1 was elevated in glioma tiss… Show more

“…HAS2-AS1 mediates hypoxia-induced invasiveness of oral squamous cell carcinoma [12]. In GBM, the reduction in HAS2-AS1 inhibits GBM cells migration and invasion in vitro and in vivo [24]. Therefore, we speculated that HAS2-AS1 might play a role as an oncogene in glioma.…”

“…lncRNAs are highly conserved non-coding RNA transcripts of >200 nucleotides in length, which have attracted attention because of the discovery in recent years of their association with the process of tumor formation, invasion and metastasis ( 10 , 11 ). lncRNAs can fold into complex three-dimensional structures and interact specifically with transcription factors, histones and chromatin-modifying proteins, thereby affecting the expression of other genes ( 12 , 13 ). Several lncRNAs have been demonstrated to participate in the occurrence and progression of OSCC, including H1 and HAS2-AS1.…”

“…Several studies have reported the close association of aberrant lncRNAs and miRNAs expressions to tumor development, including glioma [ 24 , 25 ]. lncRNA HAS2-AS1 promoted tumour progression in glioma by acting as a ceRNA [ 26 ]. HCG11 modulated glioma progression through its action on the miR-496/CPEB3 axis [ 27 ].…”
