Long‐term generation scheduling for renewable‐dominant systems concerning limited energy supporting capability of hydrogeneration

Abstract: Renewable-dominant mixtures with hydrogeneration and variable renewable energies (VREs) have been the focus for decarbonization of power systems. Hydrogeneration with large reservoir becomes the main regulating source. The long-term generation scheduling (LTGS) on monthly reservoir regulation for the approaching year becomes more significant because reserving adequate water storage is related to intramonth balance, considering that hydrogeneration has to supplement deficit energy of VRE generation. However, co… Show more

“…(1) Water energy China has abundant hydro energy resources, and the southcentral and southwestern regions of China contain abundant hydro energy. The use of hydro energy resources as power generation resources has become an important trend in the development of new energy sources (Lin et al, 2021). China ranks among the leading countries in the world in terms of hydroelectric power generation capacity.…”

“…In systems whose design adopts a loose-pool dispatch, the GS models are tools primarily used to maximize the expected revenue associated with energy trading in spot and future markets [2,3]. On the other hand, in the case of markets with centralized dispatch, i.e., the tight-pool, an independent system operator employs a chain of GS models to minimize the expected operating cost, considering some risk-measure [4][5][6][7].…”

“…Hydroelectricity is a clean, efficient, and reliable form of energy whose contribution to greenhouse gas emissions is negligible in comparison with fossil fuels [1,2]. Century-developed hydro turbines and units make the modern huge hydro-power plants generate an amount of electricity among the whole power system [3,4].…”
