“…Clinical trials have shown that oral trandolapril 1 to 4 mg once daily provides satisfactory blood pressure reduction in patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension when administered for periods up to 12 months (see, e.g., 4,13,25,27,38,53). Treatment with trandolapril 2 to 4 mg daily for 12 months normalized blood pressure in 60% of patients in a large trial (4), and blood pressure was controlled in a further 13% of patients when trandolapril was combined with diuretics or calcium antagonists. In patients with moderate hypertension the fixed combination of 180 mg slow release verapamil and 2 mg trandolapril was followed by a maximal mean blood pressure reduction of 23/20 mmHg within the first 6 hr with no change in heart rate and without orthostatic symptoms (61).…”
