Long‐wave plasma radiofrequency ablation for treatment of xanthelasma palpebrarum

Abstract: Xanthelasma palpebrarum is the most common type of xanthoma affecting the eyelids. It is characterized by asymptomatic soft yellowish macules, papules, or plaques over the upper and lower eyelids. Many treatments are available for management of xanthelasma palpebrarum, the most commonly used include surgical excision, ablative CO or erbium lasers, nonablative Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, trichloroacetic acid peeling, and radiofrequency ablation. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of RF ablation in the t… Show more

“…3 The device works by touch, and it consists of a hand piece with a sterile tip and a wrist-generator that differently than other plasma radiofrequency devices, allows the adjustment of power and frequency. 2 In fact, the device has four regulations of power and frequency parameters making possible several combinations, with settings depending on the clinical indication and type of treatment. The mode of action does not contemplate contact between the toe and the skin, since the contact with the skin interrupts the emission of the electromagnetic wave and therefore its functioning.…”

“…The mode of action does not contemplate contact between the toe and the skin, since the contact with the skin interrupts the emission of the electromagnetic wave and therefore its functioning. 2 The extreme precision of the device allows concentrating the selected energy in very small tissue areas (1 mm in diameter) without the involvement of the surrounding skin, acting on the tissues precisely and with extreme care, leading to optimal aesthetic results and minimal risk of collateral effects. 2 Instruments and acquisition methods were described previously.…”
