Lot-Size Models with Uncertain Demand Considering Its Skewness/Kurtosis and Stochastic Programming Applied to Hospital Pharmacy with Sensor-Related COVID-19 Data

Abstract: Governments have been challenged to provide timely medical care to face the COVID-19 pandemic. Under this pandemic, the demand for pharmaceutical products has changed significantly. Some of these products are in high demand, while, for others, their demand falls sharply. These changes in the random demand patterns are connected with changes in the skewness (asymmetry) and kurtosis of their data distribution. Such changes are critical to determining optimal lots and inventory costs. The lot-size model helps to … Show more

“…Blockchain is a new paradigm in the information technology industry with applications in fields different from its origins in cryptocurrencies, and healthcare is one of them, as blockchain provides secure transfer of patient data and drug supply chain, 27 facilitating their safe transfer 4 . The adoption of blockchain in healthcare systems offers significant benefits such as data security, cost and time saving, supply chain management, client satisfaction, productivity improvement, and assistance in accessing information across the globe.…”

“…To motivate readers and potential users, a wide spectrum of additional applications of this new distribution in real‐world scenarios for diverse areas are the following: (i) acceptance sampling 22 ; (ii) quality control charts 26 ; (iii) inventory management 27 ; (iv) task and location assignments 28 ; (v) sampling designs with probabilities proportional to size and related models 29 ; and (vi) modeling the number of competing causes related to the occurrence of a medical event of interest 30 . In general, applications can be found in the simulation of real‐world systems generating random variables with r‐hypergeometric distribution and any real‐world scenarios where it is necessary to generate samples with replacement and without order.…”
