Low-Cost Compact Hairpin Filter Integrated with a Diamond Antenna for Wireless and 5G Sub-6 GHz Applications

Abstract: A new compact microstip filtering Diamond Antenna (DA) is presented in this article for possible applications in the Fifth-Generation (5G) at the n77-band (3.3 GHz-4.2 GHz), such as, Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) which is a radiocommunication system between fixed earth stations utilizing one or more satellites. The structure is implemented on an FR4 Epoxy substrate wich has a dielectric constant ϵ r = 4.4, a loss tangent tan(δ) = 0.025 and a thickness h equal to 1.6 mm. The substrate has a small size of 39.7 ×… Show more

“…The applications for hairpin filters are large and varied. They are commonly used in communication systems such as mobile and satellite communications [30,31]. For example, in radar systems, hairpin filters are used to process received signals, filtering out unwanted frequencies to improve the accuracy and reliability of the radar [32][33][34].…”

“…These metallic strips called resonators are folded or coupled together to generate filtering functions [6]- [8]. Planar filters can be integrated with microstrip antennas and form single multifunctional devices capable of filtering and radiating which simplifies the communication chain and reduces interconnection loss [9]- [18]. In general, a microwave bandpass filter is considered a competitor if it meets the current trend's requirements which are compact size, high selectivity (high-quality factor), low insertion loss (close to 0 dB), low reflection coefficient (less than -10 dB), and affordable cost.…”
