Low-cost, compact UWB antenna with frequency band-notch function

Abstract: Low-cost, compact, circular planar dipole UWB antennas have been designed, based on the 'two-penny dipole'. One of the dipole arms has been integrated with the ground plane of a microstrip transmission line, the strip being connected to the other dipole arm. The use of microstrip in stead of stripline technology hardly degrades the radiation characteristics, but simplifies the antenna architecture considerably. Up to 6GHz the azimuthal gain variation does not exceed 3dB. For frequencies in excess of 6GHz the a… Show more

“…In our measurement, an Agilent PNA-X 4-port vector network analyzer was used. UWB antennas designed for 3 to 10 GHz were used for measurements [8]. The measured frequency range was set from 1 to 11 GHz in order to measure the channel in the UWB band.…”

“…The slot may have different shapes, such as V-shaped (Kim & Kwon, 2004), Ushaped , C-shaped (Lin & Hung, 2006), H-shapped (Bao & Amman, 2007), etc. Other possibilities in order to create a band-notched function are the insertion of strips in the patch (Lin & Hung, 2006), and the insertion of a function of filtering in or before the feed line of the antenna (Visser, 2007;Djaiz et al 2009). …”

“…Using EIRP means the antenna has to be taken into account as well [10]. Looking at an example of a low cost UWB antenna -a shortened microstrip pseudo-monopole [11], the gain varies against frequency between 0.62 and 3.14 dBi.…”
