Low dose γ radiation enhances antidepressant effect of resveratrol: Behavioral and neurochemical studies

Abstract: The low dose of radiation (LDR) has received growing attention for its beneficial neuroprotective effect. This study was designed to investigate the enhancing effect of LDR on the antidepressant potential of resveratrol against diazepam‐induced depression in mice. Female mice divided into five groups; control, diazepam (2 mg/kg), LDR (0.5Gy) + diazepam, resveratrol (20 mg/kg) + diazepam, LDR + resveratrol+diazepam. Mice received diazepam showed depressive symptoms as evidenced by decreased locomotor activity i… Show more

“…38 All these findings were diminished by Sildenafil and low-dose gamma irradiation. 13,22 This preliminary study examined the effects of sildenafil and low-dose gamma irradiation as a novel approach against the deleterious effect of tamoxifen. Where, the overall results, suggest significant liver improvement through reduction in oxidative stress, inflammatory damage and endothelial dysfunction-induced hepatic damage owing to chemotherapy complications with tamoxifen.…”

“…Irradiation with 6 Gy induces anxiety in the mouse 38 . Irradiation of PD10 mice with 0.5 Gy, induced cognitive impairment in the adulthood, 39 however, irradiation with the same dose markedly ameliorated diazepam‐induced depression in adult mice 40 . The impairment of the spatial learning and emotional regulation ability of mice induced by 2 Gy irradiation at PD3(Figures 3 and 4) may be associated with hippocampal neuroinflammation and changes in synaptic plasticity 41–44 …”
