“…The episodic return of oxygenated conditions is suggested by sparse bivalves in the black shale (Galácz, 1991). However, based on the estimates of Röhl and Schmid-Röhl (2005) from the Posidonia Shale, these episodes may have lasted only few months or years.…”

“…By contrast, because of the rare outcrops, there are only patchy data from the Bernese Jura and Mont Terri area. Based on new and hitherto unpublished sections, and new and revised biostratigraphic data (ammonites, ostracodes), the chrono-and lithostratigraphic Dean et al (1961), sensu Bloos (1979) and sensu Schlegelmilch (1992); I = Psilonotenbank (e.g., LGRB 2004; Bloos et al 2005;Etzold et al 2010); II = Oolithenbank (e.g., Schloz 1972;Bloos et al 2005;Schmid et al 2008); III = Kupferfelsbank (e.g., LGRB 2004; Schmid et al 2008); IV = Davoei-Bank (e.g., Schlatter 1991;LGRB 2004); V = Unterer Stein (e.g., Urlichs 1977;Röhl and Schmid-Röhl 2005); * = likely b The Staffelegg Formation Dean et al (1961), sensu Bloos (1979), sensu Brenner (1986) and sensu Schlegelmilch (1992); see also Beutler et al (2005), von Hillebrandt and Krystyn (2009), Etzold et al (2010). 1 Klettgau area; 2 Lindau well; 3 Weiach well; 4 eastern Tabular Jura; 5 eastern Aargau Tabular Jura ( Fig.…”

“…Smith and Wuttke (2012), however, are critical concerning this way of embedding, and-as will be indicated below-their critical evaluation is justified. Seilacher (1982) had already noticed that organic-rich, muddy sediments such as the Posidonienschiefer tend to accumulate under tranquil conditions, but Reisdorf et al (2012) argue-like several others (Kaufmann 1981;Röhl and Schmid-Röhl 2005;Schieber et al 2007)-that some evidence of weak to moderate currents indicates changes in the depositional environment. These currents might have eroded some of the smaller bones, although-as Reisdorf et al (2012) agree-the cohesive bottom sediments would have required a relatively strong current, depending on the degree of the sediment's consolidation.…”
